A Blog for a Certain Type of Techie

Growing up in rural Michigan, surrounded by woods and farmland in a town of 1000, not everyone embraced technology. Those who enjoy the countryside often find this to be a feature and not a defect. That’s why, given my interests, I’m often greeted with surprised looks when I tell others that I spent the first 20 years of my life in the rural Midwest.

I don’t fit the mold of a typical tech guru in more ways than one. While I earned my degree in economics from Umich, my early passion was computer science. I knew early on that while I excelled at programming, I wanted to pursue something tech-related, but something different. The value I wanted to deliver wasn’t in the code I would write, but in the solutions I offered to businesses. This is when I decided I wanted to work in tech sales.

Anyone who knows me well can tell you that I love writing and keeping current on the newest tech developments. When people hear “technology,” they immediately draw mental images of laptops, smartphones, and the internet. What is also important is the application of research to the fields of medicine, informing regulatory practices, and changing organizational structures. For this blog, I’ll use the Oxford Dictionary definition of technology:

“The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry.”

Individuals and organizations looking to operate at their best will need to stay current with this progress so they can best utilize it to their advantage. These new developments are the reason why I see a need for this blog, and I will share my writings with others who might find value in my insights. Above all, I welcome questions and want to be a trusted resource for someone wanting to know more about something I wrote about.
